Three Strike Summer

By Mali, Age 10

Stereotypes have defined me my whole life and still do. I am an Asian American girl who is small for my age. Some people think that maybe because of this, I’m not good enough. Sometimes, I think that to myself too. But what I feel seen about in the book Three Strike Summer by Skylar Shrempp, is that the protagonist, Gloria Mae, has been defined by stereotypes too, just because she is a girl and wants to play baseball. The peach orchard her family works on has a boys’ baseball team, and Gloria Mae is determined to join it. The boys are mean to her, but she doesn’t let this stop her. Gloria Mae has pushed me to be my true self, and instead of letting others tell me I can’t, to tell myself I can. Nobody can stop a girl from achieving her dreams.

Nobody can stop a girl from achieving her dreams.
