The Night Diary
By Pearl, Age 10
The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani is where I feel seen. Nisha, the protagonist, is mostly shy when she meets new people and quiet at home. I’m just like her. The story takes place in India, and my family is from India too. It reminds me of my ancestors because they had to flee their homes just like Nisha and her family. This happened because, in history, Hindus did not let Muslims do prayers. When Nisha and her family were fleeing, she and her brother were really scared, and my ancestors were probably scared too. This is why The Night Diary makes me feel seen.
