The New Normal

By Olivia, age 12

It was the 16th of March, we had just gotten the news that a virus was going around spreading quickly. We had gotten a week off from school and everyone I knew was ecstatic! I had been dancing around the house jumping up and down celebrating our week of freedom. My friends and I were so excited, we had gotten off a whole week! Or that’s what we assumed.

Weeks went by and we still hadn’t stepped inside our school. We had been using the platform Zoom to learn. Just picture it, having to listen to your teacher ramble on for hours while your phone is blowing up and your sister is blasting her music! Not the easiest thing in the world. The worst part of the whole thing was that 3 years of my life were blown out the window and attacked by a pandemic. How we were living was different, but it became normal.

Almost a year later, I had finally gone back to school! We still have to wear masks in school today, but eventually that will change. The world is still healing from this mess. Covid-19 had messed us all up. The new normal is different and weird, but it is our future.
