The Good Side of Things

By Hazel, Age 11

I woke up, ready to log on at 8:00. Just a year ago, I would have been learning with other students, all in the same classroom. No masks, or “social distancing”, just what was normal. Now we have a new normal. Waking up early, going to breakfast where my whole family would be. My dad working from home, so when he had meetings in the living room, we would all have to be silent! My mom teaching reading groups on the computer (how was that supposed to work). And me and my brother doing online school. Bleh. Not everything about it was totally bad… I got to have breaks and play basketball outside. I also got to have lots of snacks. In our meetings for online school, my friend would keep tally marks on how many times my teacher “threatened to tell our parents” if we didn’t do our work. I think she still has the list, and it’s around 27 tallies. I also got to see my family a lot during online school which was good!

Over these tough times, I’ve learned to see the good side of things, and just push through and be hopeful.
