Staying Positive
By Zoe, Age 10
“POSITIVE.” Only a few weeks after the COVID-19 virus had come to America, that was the result of my dad’s test. And just like that he was in quarantine. He was isolated from us for two weeks.
Two whole weeks.
I was so worried about him. I remember my siblings and I would make cards and pictures for him almost every day. The sad thing was that even though he was right across the hall, this was one of the only ways we could communicate with him.
By the time his birthday rolled around, my dad was still in his room. Instead of celebrating the way that we normally would, we had to leave his gifts and birthday cake by his door and watch from the hallway as he blew out the candles.
Less than a week later my family gathered in the backyard for an easter egg hunt and while my siblings and I searched for eggs, my dad threw water balloons at us from the roof!
Even through all the sadness Covid has caused, my dad’s story has reminded me that perseverance and hope can get you through anything.
