Social media craze
By Mariam, Age 13
Like many during this pandemic, I became reliant on social media; specifically, the more unpleasant part: the part that affected many, and shaped them into a completely different person. Social media requires people to add content, and from there, more and more events are being posted and those come with replies. People can’t stop scrolling, consuming everyone’s life around them and barely focusing on their own. I was a victim. Since I was so addicted, I started developing bad habits and changing my standards, making an extra effort to impress others.
Overtime, I’ve realized how ridiculous this was, thanks to the better side of social media. It just scares me that not all people will come to realize what I did.
I instead started focusing on my own life. Following trends and finding inspiration isn’t a bad thing, I did it quite a bit, I simply added some rules; I actually like it and never do it for others. I gained more hobbies that I did frequently, and spent more time with my family.
Overall, I’ve developed a good mindset and became more mature this quarantine, so it was a pleasant experience for me.
