Silver Linings

By Bethany, age 10

Covid hasn’t been a fun experience. But there are silver linings, like having time to climb trees. Like not having to worry about getting around with a cast when I fall out of trees. Learning way too many technology hacks. Having more time to spend with pets. Having time to watch a tadpole take its first breath. Time to watch a bean plant grow, a flower bloom, even noticing a “pet” mouse living in your backyard. Noticing there are two “pet mice” living in your backyard. Appreciating things that went unnoticed before. Appreciating the normal.

Appreciating things that went unnoticed before. Appreciating the normal.

Like how you can go to school everyday and see family even if they are across the sea. Being able to go wherever you want, whenever you want. Not having fear of leaving home. Seeing each other’s smiles, when times have been that you could only hope they were there. Silver linings are Having stories to share, Tales to tell, and finally, learning the importance of hope. Even when it’s been squished, hammered, and run through the washing machine. Cause it’s still there. And it is what will get us through this. There are silver linings, and we all need to stop and notice them.
