Room to Dream

By Yari, Age 10

The book that made me feel finally seen is, Room to Dream by, Kelly Yang. Room to Dream made me feel finally seen because it gave me the courage to tell people about my day. I immigrated here when I was young too, and I could not talk to people either because I only knew Spanish. Even when I learned English, I did not talk to people other than my mom that much. But when I read Room to Dream, I realized I actually wanted to talk to people. So instead of saying “good” to my mom when she asked me how my day was, I told her about my entire day. Ever since I started to talk a little bit more in school, I have made a lot of friends, and with the help of those friends, I have learned a lot about myself, and how unique I am, and how unique America is. Where I was born, there are less things to do if you aren’t with your family. But here you can literally do anything like go to a museum, go to a festival, ANYTHING!

There’s always room to dream in America!
