Quarantine
By Keoki, Age 12
It was going to be the hardest part of our lives. My family and I just got back from New Zealand, but we couldn’t go back home just yet as we had to survive two weeks of quarantine. I know two weeks isn’t long, but I thought it would take forever. We were going to check in to our rooms, when we found out that either my dad had to go into a separate room or my mom. My brother and I didn’t want to separate, and so we choose to stay with our mom. Our dad had to go in a separate room without us, and it was one of the hardest moments of our life. “I’ll be right across the hall,” my dad said, blinking back tears…but at least one slipped out. “We just have to survive two weeks of quarantine,” my mom said with a sad smile. We all hugged and said our goodbyes.
I know this is not going to be easy, but deep down inside me I had hope, a hope burning in my chest that once this is all over, we would be back together again.
