My Experience With Distance Learning

By Ananya, Age 11

When I first learned about COVID-19, I was in shock. A deadly virus seemed like something I would read about in a sci-fi novel, not experience in real life! I couldn’t imagine not being able to go to school and see my friends without a mask. Then came the issue of distance learning.

But when my teacher’s warm smile finally appeared on my computer screen, all my doubts melted away. She made sure our new routine was as close to our in-person one as possible and read us various books, including Front Desk!

After hearing less-than-positive comments from other students, I wasn’t exactly thrilled to hear that my school would be participating in remote learning, too. But when my teacher’s warm smile finally appeared on my computer screen, all my doubts melted away. She made sure our new routine was as close to our in-person one as possible and read us various books, including Front Desk! Before I knew it, it was the last day of school. As I sat through our class’s daily meeting, I thought about all the memories I made that year, and how I would cherish them forever. I felt heartened by how the pandemic brought our school together. After all, the coronavirus certainly didn’t make our lives any easier, but the hope and kinship it inspired among us students was truly infectious.
