Lucky After All

By Ava, Age 11

“How hot is it?” My sister, Madelyn, asked my mom as we made our way through the bustling airport.

I tugged at the sharp wire on my mask. She was like a little jumping bean!

My mom grabbed her phone, “83 degrees and sunny!”

I was excited but also a little worried, I hoped my grandparents wouldn’t mind us being there, especially with Covid. After we got our bags Madelyn dashed out the doors and into the blazing heat.

“Whoa! It’s hot out here!” She called through the doors.

At that moment, my worries disappeared and I ran out to join her. Suddenly, a steel gray car pulled up. “Papa & Grandma!” We called and hurried over to the car.

We all squeezed in and began filling them in on EVERYTHING. We arrived at the house and ran inside dragging our suitcases behind us. Once we were in our swimsuits we were off!  Madelyn remembered the password for the gate and we hurried in.

“This is the BEST day ever!” Madelyn remarked gleefully. I agreed.

I was SO lucky that I got to share this hard, stressful time with some of my favorite people in the world!
