Learning new things
By Riki, age 12
I was in fourth grade when Ms. Adams said, “Our school will be online for a week or two.” Soon it became months and a year.
I enjoyed Zoom a lot because I got to look up any vocabulary I did not understand during breaks while getting up and stretching. I didn’t have to put it in the ‘to do list’ for later. My parents also got to listen to the teacher. I was more relaxed without the pressure of dressing up, being driven etc. I got to see snippets of my friends’ rooms that I never had before. Daniel has an Elon Musk background! I got to learn how to mountain bike. I went with my Dad and sister and got time to bond with them. This is something I would normally not have time for if it weren’t for the pandemic.
I was also able to learn my native language ‘Telugu’ through online classes. Now I can communicate better with both sets of my grandparents.
Because of the pandemic, my technology skills improved a lot. I was also able to learn my native language ‘Telugu’ through online classes. Now I can communicate better with both sets of my grandparents. My parents are not able to keep too many secrets away from me now! In this pandemic I learned that even in very tough situations we can think out of the box and make the most of it.
