It’s Not Easy

By Sofia, Age 11

Have you ever felt like a book is the mirror of your life? I have, and because of that I feel seen! The book that made me feel seen was Front Desk. When I read that Mia and her family were struggling with finances, it brought me back to the time when my parents couldn’t pay the bills; we couldn’t even afford to pay for gas. It made me sad seeing my parents struggle just like Mia felt. Also, my parents were mistreated because of their accents and were fired from jobs because of racism. As I read Front Desk, I knew how hurt Mia and her family felt. It is not nice that people are mean to people who are just trying to learn the language and better themselves in America. I knew how hard it was for Mia and her parents because I walked through that difficult path.
