During the covid-19 pandemic, I ran a half marathon as a fundraiser for an organization called Free To Run. I got to learn about other cultures and what it is like to be a girl living in Afghanistan. I also got to do a Zoom call with three Afghan girls who participate with Free To Run. I asked them what they wanted to do in the future, and they said that they wanted to help others by being doctors, nurses, and opening orphanages for kids who lost their parents through war. Their hope for the future is that girls in Afghanistan will have equal rights like men and be able to do what they love freely. I had many experiences throughout the pandemic that I will never forget.
This opportunity opened a part of the world to me when I wasn’t even allowed to leave my house. It showed me that we all deserve to have hopes and dreams.
