Ghost Boys Jewell Parker Rhodes

By Daisey, Age 12

The book Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes makes me feel seen. It makes me feel seen because it shows what it’s really like to live in fear. My whole life I was told what to do when I see the police or how to act outside. The book shows how I’m threatening by the color of my skin. Although I’m not a boy nor dead I relate to the main character Jerome. Like Jerome, I grew up being scared of guns. Hearing stories about people that have died due to gun violence. I’ve realized that I shouldn’t live in fear because if you fear your whole life you will never enjoy your life. This is why this book makes me feel seen.
