Frizzy

The book I feel finally seen in is Frizzy by Claribel A. Ortega. I feel connected to this book because Marlene and I both make mistakes – a lot! We both always drop stuff and bump into people and they get so mad like you just broke out of jail! She feels like she is more confident and powerful with her hair curly and free. But whenever she wears her hair curly, her mom makes her feel like she can’t be beautiful.  Whenever I do or wear something that people don’t like they say stuff like “eh I don’t like it” or “it doesn’t look good on you,” and it doesn’t feel good at all. She showed her mom her drawing with her having curly hair and her mom finally understood that’s how Marlene wanted to see herself. Just like Marlene, I have curly hair and I feel confident with my curly hair. I also use art to express myself and my feelings. I feel seen because I am not afraid to be who I am just like Marlene!
