Finding Hope in a Hard Covid Pandemic

By Sabine, Age 9

Ahhh! Oh No! Breaking news! Covid is spreading fast! It started in China and is now in Canada. Come back at 3:00 for more news about this Covid pandemic. I woke up. A bad dream. No, Covid is not that bad at the moment, but still, at school, my classmates and I have to wear masks, face shields, and even have to have plexiglass in between us. I go to school wondering about my dream. Later that night, Mom and Dad said they have a surprise. I love surprises. I think it will cheer me up.

“ We are getting kittens,” says Mom.

“What!?” I ran up and hugged her. “Two cats so that they won’t get bored.”

I missed that part. A month later they came. They were so adorable! My cats are really shy, and I think I can guess why. They were born during Covid, so they never saw anyone, other than outside the window. Coco and Minou gave me lots and lots of hope though. If I was sad I would hug them. Also, I heard a cat purring soothes you.

When I was bored because something had been cancelled, I would play with my cats.
