THIS OPPORTUNITY IS NOW OVER Deadline - March 25, 2023

FINALLY SEEN cover final (1)

About the FINALLY SEEN Student Writing Publishing Opportunity:

When I was little, I never saw myself represented in books. It wasn't until I became an adult and I wrote a book -- a joyous, wondrous, heartbreaking, uplifting, and honest book about my childhood that I finally saw myself in a book for the first time. That magical feeling when you see yourself, your life, your worries, your struggle, your hopes and dreams, your emotions reflected on the page -- there's nothing like it! It makes you feel like someone else out there in the universe understands what you're going through.

As an author, I have made it my life goal to give kids that feeling.

And if you've felt that feeling, I want to hear about it! So I am delighted to announce a student publishing opportunity for celebrate book love! Please tell me in 200 words, what book makes YOU feel finally seen, and why. Together, let's share and sprinkle book love wide and far!

Thank you for encouraging your students to read, read, read! Now it is time for them to gush to the world about a book they LOVED that makes them feel FINALLY SEEN! This is a FREE opportunity, open to all teachers of students in elementary school and middle school, in the USA. (We are sorry but due to limited administrative help, we are only able to open this opportunity to teachers and students in the USA at this time.)

If you would like to participate, ask your students to write a short piece on a book that makes them feel finally seen. Here are the rules:

-Max 200 words -- we are unable to consider longer pieces.
-Must be the student's original work
-Tell us the name of the book and WHY it makes you feel finally seen
-If the student's work is selected for publication, parental consent is required for publication.

Each class is allowed to submit five works for consideration. You may vote on the best essays as a class or the teacher may select the best pieces. Only the teacher may email the selected stories to us. If you are homeschooled, your parent may submit your story to us.

We reserve the right to make the final publication decision. Please be mindful that we take privacy very seriously and will ONLY publish a work with a child's first name and age. Please do not include identifying details, such as school name, street, town, or other identifying information in your story -- if those are included in the submission, we will edit them out. Please do not send stories that include details that might breach family privacy or hurt another individual's feelings. We want to encourage kids, as much as possible, to keep to theme of celebrating yourself and what makes you unique.
