Comfort in community

By Nikka, Age 9

“Two weeks of online school will be fun!”I thought when I got the “good” news. Little did I know that two weeks would turn into a month, and a month would turn into years. No one could have predicted this, and everyone in the world was in the same boat as me. The pandemic hit quickly. I was sent home from school on a Friday and began distance learning from my mom’s office on Monday. It was three months before I could see my friends in person, and distance learning was a huge adjustment. I didn’t know how to do my schoolwork online so I didn’t do all of it. My teacher reached out to my mom who caught me up with the work. Still, I was hopeful that school would get back to normal. Things got a little better in the summer, but then I got the news that two of my best friends were moving to Nashville. I was very sad. I didn’t want them to go. Nine months later I finally went back to school.

It was a difficult time, but I took comfort in knowing that every kid in the world felt the same way.
