Becoming a child of the woods

Covid affected my life in many ways. Some positive, like I got to spend more time with my family but that also came with its disadvantages. Spending all your time with your siblings isn’t exactly ideal.

During Covid, my family got addicted to camping and I became a child of the woods. I remember one time we went camping and my grandparents came along. At lunchtime we all went on a short walk to the river near our campsite.

We got there and to our surprise there was a rope bridge strung across the river. The only thing separating the bridge from a tightrope were the skinny ropes on either side to hold onto. And my grandpa was feeling adventurous. So, he decided that he was going to go onto the rope bridge. And, despite my grandma telling him not to, he stepped onto the bridge. He was halfway across and suddenly we all heard the bridge twist and then a big splash. And I looked at my grandpa in the freezing water. We had to fish him out of the river. And we all walked back to the camp site laughing at my soaking wet grandpa.
