Aru Shah and the End of Time
By Anika, Age 10
A book that makes me feel finally seen is the fantasy book, Aru Shah and the End of Time, written by Roshani Chokshi, because the book is about an Indian girl who goes to a private school but doesn’t fit in. I connect to this because I am of Indian heritage and also often feel different from the other kids around me at my school, and I find it hard to fit in. I come from a privileged family, but sometimes I feel not so great when I overhear other people talking about their lake house, and all the cool stuff they get to have that I don’t. In the book, all of Aru Shah’s friends have this fancy life at the private school she goes to, but the fanciest thing in her life is that her mom owns a museum and she and her mom live in it. I really like this book because I don’t see many Indian girls that share similar experiences in the ones I read. That is why the book Aru Shah and the End of Time makes me feel finally seen.
