A League of Their Own

By Avery, Age 11

To me, a book that makes me feel seen and understood is A League of Their Own. This book always inspired me because I play softball, but I have always longed to play baseball but I was just too scared. Not because I was afraid to get hit with the ball, but because I was afraid that the boys wouldn’t accept me to actually play because I was a girl. When I read A League of Their Own, I felt understood for once. I felt like those girls had the guts to do what I never could and it made me want to stand up and do something. I still play softball today, but I play because I want to play. Because I realized that, I don’t have to play baseball to prove myself worthy. I just have to do what I love. And you know what, those boys don’t know what they’re missing.
